How many times does a puppy go to the vet in the first year?
Let's hope your dog doesn't require eight visits to the vet in their first year! Having said that, some puppies will. A totally normal, healthy puppy won't need more than 3-4 visits that first year, but if your puppy has worms, difficulties from a spay/neuter treatment, or any other continuing health condition, you'll need to keep an especially careful eye on their health throughout that vital first year. Because puppies are naturally inquisitive, they are more likely to require emergency or urgent care veterinary visits. As their immune systems strive to catch up to the adult dogs around them, they frequently break bones, consume foods they shouldn't, and become infected with diseases. The more adult dogs your puppy interacts with, the more likely it is that they will get.[1]
